Description

This $20 pure silver coin is part of a five coin series from the Royal Canadian Mint that utilizes an art style to represent a contemporary interpretation of Canada’s most famous icons including “the polar bear”. The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver, and has a limited mintage of just 7,500 pieces.  As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

Canadian artist Calder Moore has featured a stylized portrait of two polar bears and a representation of Canada’s North.  Geometry, technology and art intersect in this depiction of an adult polar bear and its cub.  Each polygon is made distinct from the other through extraordinary sculpting, cutting-edge technology and advanced finishing techniques. They form a scene as the mother bear introduces her cub to Canada’s Arctic waters.  The mother polar bear swims out and turns to face her cub as he attempts to take his first few strokes. The varying shades of blue and whites help to convey the icy feel of the Arctic setting.
