Description

This 2016 $20 pure silver coin is the last in the series from the Royal Canadian Mint that utilizes a geometric art style to represent a contemporary interpretation of Canada’s most famous icons including “The Maple Leaf”.  This unusual and visually striking coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver with a large 40 mm diameter, and has a limited mintage of just 7,500 pieces.  As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

Canadian artist Calder Moore has featured a representation of a Canadian forest in autumn, and thus a background for Canada’s most iconic emblem – The Maple Leaf.  Geometry, technology and art intersect in this depiction of a maple leaf.  Each polygon is made distinct from the other through extraordinary sculpting, cutting-edge technology and advanced finishing techniques. The shapes come together to form the trees on both sides, rich colours create a fading sunset casting a glow in the foliage.  Sculpting, technology and advanced finishing draw the eye to two maples leaves.  One maple leaf falls gently to the ground, and we get a partial underwater glimpse of another maple leaf floating above the rocky riverbed.  This is achieved by overlapping the water’s surface beyond the image field.
