Description

This spectacularly beautiful and innovative coin combines two of our most iconic national symbols in one pure silver $10 coin.  The coin itself features the shape of a maple leaf, which forms a silhouette to frame artist Trevor Tennant’s image of two Canada geese.  The coin contains just over half an ounce of pure silver, and has a mintage limited to 22,000.  GST /HST exempt.

The Design:

Canadian artist Trevor Tennant takes advantage of the uniqueness of the Maple Leaf shape to place two Canada Geese within the design.  Fine engraving allows the viewer to see the plumage of their wings to their signature white cheeks. The scene shows two geese feeding in shallow water of a pond or lake.  A branch in the background doubles as the veins in the maple leaf, with the ripples in the water enhancing the leaf’s texture.

The Maple Leaf:

Few icons are as inextricably linked to Canada as the mighty maple leaf. It is a proud national emblem that is evocative of Canada's natural beauty, it has inspired artists; graced the uniforms of soldiers pursuing peace; and given hope to new Canadians looking for opportunities. It continues to evoke a sense of national identity among the millions who call Canada home.

In addition to the maple leaf's presence on various provincial flags and coats of arms, the country's coinage has featured maple leaves, wreaths, and boughs in various forms for most of Canada's history. In fact, the maple leaf was present on all Canadian coins from 1876 to 1901. Since that time, it has always appeared on Canadian pennies until 2012.

The Canada Geese:

The Canada goose is undeniably Canadian, this migratory bird, with its long black-and-white head and neck, brown body and webbed feet is beautiful and serene. The Canada goose has been on commemorative coins, stamps, and has inspired countless Canadian artists. As we turn our eyes to the sky we can see how graceful they look, flying in their “v” formation as they go south for the winter, or when they return in the spring.
