Description
This 2016 $10 pure silver coin is the final coin in the Day of the Dinosaurs series, and features Edmontonia. This ankylosaur is well equipped to protect itself, and was one of the last armoured herbivores of the late Cretaceous period about 75 million years ago. It weighs just over one half ounce of 99.99% fine silver and has a diameter of 34 mm. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
The design shows the dinosaur in three quarter profile with selective colour, creating the impression that the dinosaur is lumbering across the landscape on its four powerful legs. His spike covered armour protects its neck, back, and tail. The lush, vegetation that dominated Alberta during the Late Cretaceous period fills the background. The positioning of the dinosaur allows for a close view of the imposing appearance of Edmontonia.
The reverse is engraved with the words "CANADA," the date "2016" and the face value of "10 DOLLARS".
