Description
Guardian of its territory, the wolf (Canis lupus) is a fearless hunter that relies on its remarkable intelligence, its keen senses, and a pack mentality to maintain its reputation as an apex predator. Found in remote areas from Labrador to British Columbia and north, the wolf plays an important role in each region’s biodiversity; as a symbol of Canada’s untamed wilderness and for its prowess as a hunter. Here, our lone wolf blends in with its surroundings in Jasper National Park, of Canada where fiercely territorial packs often have a 1,000 square kilometer radius to eke out their own space in the shadows of the mountain ranges—including Chief Mountain, which is seen to the left of the wolf. Mintage is limited to 400 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse image designed by Canadian artist Maurade Baynton features a lone wolf (Canis lupus) rendered in stunning detail through expert engraving, which affords us a unique close-up view of the wolf’s characteristics in a natural habitat. Here, our fearless hunter is perched on a rocky slope and holds its steely gaze as it surveys its remote territory, while scanning the horizon beyond the image field. Tall timbers rise up behind the wolf in a breathtaking alpine backdrop, with the mountain range looming above the winding river valley below.
A striking addition to your wildlife, nature or Canadiana themed collection.
