The Design:
This selectively coloured $20 fine silver coin showcases a young white-tailed deer (fawn), with its mother (doe) in one of Canada’s many forested areas. A three-quarter profile and the use of selective colouring beautifully showcase the fawn’s reddish-brown coat, which is marked from its neck down to its tail by hundreds of bright white spots scattered along each side. Its black, pointed nose and eyes give the fawn a tender expression as it moves with increasing steadiness through the forest on long, hooved legs. Finely detailed engraving captures the doe’s features as she stands protectively at the fawn’s side, ever attentive to any signs of danger from a predator that may be lurking nearby.
In the background, summer’s bright sunlight filters through the vibrant, green-coloured canopy of maple leaves and casts shadows along the forest floor, where a fallen tree and vegetation add more dimension to the image’s engraved setting.
