Description
Since Canada’s first $100 gold coin was issued for collectors in 1976, this denomination has featured some of the most popular themes, and remains the longest running and most sought after gold coin series of the Royal Canadian Mint. While in past decades the mintage of $100 gold coins was often more than 20,000, the mintage of this 2015 Superman $100 gold coin is just 2,000, and it immediately sold out from the Royal Canadian Mint when issued. The coin weighs 12 grams and is struck in 14 karat gold.
The Design:
As seen on the iconic cover of Superman #4 (1940), the main design features Superman
performing an impressive feat of strength. Wearing his blue and red uniform with the original iconic shield, Superman responds to chaos in Metropolis by hoisting a building crumbling pillars above his head as citizens scramble around him to find safety. The striking image is a telling showcase of Superman incredible powers and is brought to life through finely detailed engraving and vibrant colour. A series of concentric circles frame the reverse, adding depth to the overall design and creating the illusion that Superman is poised to step out of the coin, while the circled rim includes the engraved face value of 100 DOLLARS, the word CANADA and the year 2015.
Unique custom packaging enhances the presentation of this coin.
