Description
This is the first coin in the haunted Canada series. This 2014 large format (35 mm diameter) 25 cent coin features a portrait of a ghostly bride with her eyes closed, and her bridal headdress flowing over her shoulders. Mintage is 15,000 coins.
The Design:
Using lenticular technology, a haunting effect can be seen when the coin is tilted: the bride’s eyes suddenly spring open. Below the center portrait is the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel: the setting for the story on which the coin is based. In the 1930s, a young bride fell to her death while stepping onto the staircase at the famous hotel. Since then, many have claimed to have seen her ghost haunting the old hotel.
The word “Canada” is engraved along the outer ring, together with the denomination “25 Cents” and the Year “2014”
