Description
This 2014 $25 fine silver coin combines art and technology to capture the magic of a traditional Christmas ornament. Produced in ultra high relief, the quadruple-struck design features a stylized circular ornament centered around a deeply indented star with 8 points. The engraved star is flanked by petal-like rings coloured with a bright festive red, green, and blue that circle outward to the edge of the coin. The coin weighs about one ounce of pure silver, and has a limited mintage of just 6,000 pieces. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
This is the very first coloured coin from the Royal Canadian Mint to be struck in ultra-high relief, produced using a quadruple striking process. It also utilizes an advanced "sheer effect" colourization technique, an effect that makes the vibrant colours glimmer under the light. The ultra-high-relief striking process lends extra depth to the star in the centre of the coin, which spectacularly emulates a traditional indented glass ornament. The high-polished rim of the coin bears the word "CANADA", the face value of "25 DOLLARS" and the date "2014".
