Description

This $20 fine silver coin is crafted in honour of the world-renowned stained glass windows located in Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria, British Columbia. As a fine silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is GST/HST exempt.

The Design:

The focal point of the design is the grouping of six brightly coloured flowers; each petal has been filled by hand with blue, purple and red translucent enamel to recreate a stained glass effect. Green translucent enamel has been applied to the veined leaves, which provide foliar interest. The original window's diverging brick pattern has been replicated and adapted to a smaller scale, to fill the reverse image background.

About Craigdarroch Castle:

The castle is a mansion constructed in the late 1800s by a wealthy coal baron, who requested it be designed in the Scottish Baronial style. Despite its 39 rooms and 28 acres, the many examples of ultra-sophisticated stained glass windows remain its primary claim to fame.
