Description
Based on its initial collector response, the 2013 “O Canada” coin series is likely to be one of the most sought after and difficult to obtain modern collections from the Royal Canadian Mint. Subscriptions for all twelve coins sold out from the Mint almost immediately, and single coins can be extremely difficult to find. This is the sixth coin in the 12 coin series celebrating our national identity and featuring some of Canada’s most popular images and icons. Total mintage for each is limited to 40,000.
This is the highest quality produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, double struck in pure silver with a near flawless matte proof finish and a weight of just over half an ounce. This item is for the one coin only, with no additional coins to follow in the subscription series.
The Design:
This $10 silver coin features a full-body portrait of a lone wolf set against the backdrop of a remote Canadian Arctic landscape. The wolf stands at ease, gazing toward the viewer with just a hint of a wolfish grin. Its thick fur, sharp claws and pointed ears are rendered in dimensional detail through exquisite engraving. The wolf stands atop a rock outcropping amid small mosses and lichens, surrounded by a group of evergreens. The reverse is framed with a border engraved with the word "CANADA," the date "2013," the face value of "10 DOLLARS," and a stylized wolf paw-print.
This coin is a wonderful gift and collectible to celebrate Canada's natural wonders, the Canadian North, Canada's Arctic sovereignty, and our country's unique iconography.
