Description
Based on its initial collector response, the 2013 “O Canada” coin series is likely to be one of the most sought after and difficult to obtain modern collections from the Royal Canadian Mint. Subscriptions for all twelve coins sold out from the Mint almost immediately, and single coins can be extremely difficult to find. This is the ninth coin in the 12 coin series celebrating our national identity and featuring some of Canada’s most popular images and icons. Total mintage for each is limited to 40,000. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
This $10 silver coin celebrates Canada’s passion with hockey. It features a father and child with their hockey sticks over their shoulders, with their skates hanging from the stick by the laces. They are bundled in snow pants, toques and coat, walking through the snow on the way to the rink. In the background is a small outdoor community rink. A pick-up game of hockey is underway with people awaiting their turn on the ice. The reverse image is framed with a border engraved with the word "CANADA," the date "2013," the face value of "10 DOLLARS," and stylized crossed hockey sticks.
