Superman is one of the iconic images of the 20th century and beyond, and often seen as the greatest superhero ever created. But did you know that Superman is Canadian? Superman was co-created by Canadian Joe Shuster, together with Jerry Siegel, and first published in 1938. Metropolis was based on the city of Toronto, and the Daily Planet was based on the Toronto Daily Star. Although there are millions of Superman fans around the globe, the mintage for this pure silver coin is limited to just 15,000 coins world-wide. HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

The reverse image, provided by DC Comics/Warner Brothers, features a vintage Superman breaking his bonds. The reverse is engraved with the word “CANADA,” the date “2013” and the face value of “10 DOLLARS,” as well as “SUPERMAN” in the fictitious Kryptonian language from Superman’s home planet. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

This pure silver Canadian $10 coin celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Superman, and features a vintage image of Superman breaking his bonds, taken from the very first Superman story published in Action Comics #1 in 1938. The symbols encircling the Man of Steel represent “Superman” in the Kryptonian language from Superman’s home planet. Packaging includes an acrylic display cube and a full colour graphic box displaying Superman’s Fortress of Solitude.
The Superman image is officially licensed by DC Comics and Warner Brothers.
