Description
The third issue in the Birds of Canada series showcases the brightly-coloured plumage of the male downy. A distinctive dash of red distinguishes the smallest and most familiar of the 13 Canadian woodpecker species. Chances are you'll hear the downy woodpecker before you see it. Its signature dat-dat-dat-dat sound is a sure sign that it's hammering a nearby tree with its strong chisel-shaped beak.
