The Notre Dame Basilica

Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica is an undeniable masterpiece. Its interior features a breathtaking altar adorned with handcrafted ornamentation and gilded statues, while its commanding facade towers have watched over Notre-Dame Street since the basilica's inception in 1823. Architect James O’Donnell broke tradition by infusing a classical framework with intricate Gothic details, setting a new trend for Quebec's religious architecture. Standing on historic Ville-Marie grounds, it was designated a Minor Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1982 and remains a cultural touchstone for Canada.
