Description
This 2005 coin in the Butterfly Collection brings the Great Spangled Fritillary into the spotlight with a dazzling hologram. There are 26 species of fritillaries throughout Canada and the Great Spangled Fritillary (Speyeria cybele) is one of the largest and most widespread of the “greater” fritillaries. Groups of these brightly coloured butterflies can often be seen in open fields and along roadsides where they feed on milkweeds and thistles.
