The Design:
This coin features the oldest working lighthouse on the continent, located in the port of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was originally built in 1758 and has served to guide thousands of ships into port through the many shoals and often foggy conditions. The Royal Canadian Mint has used a high-tech minting technique to accentuate the stripes that were added to the tower in 1908 to make it more visible in the snow.
