In 2004 and 2005, the Royal Canadian Mint struck two different proof quality pure silver $20 coins featuring two of the most important and historic lighthouses in Canada.  The 2004 coin features the Sambro Island Lighthouse in Halifax. Each coin weighs one full ounce of silver and comes presented in its own custom display case. Mintage 18,476. HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

This coin features the oldest working lighthouse on the continent, located in the port of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was originally built in 1758 and has served to guide thousands of ships into port through the many shoals and often foggy conditions.    The Royal Canadian Mint has used a high-tech minting technique to accentuate the stripes that were added to the tower in 1908 to make it more visible in the snow.
