Description

The Polar Bear is the largest land carnivore in the world with adult males weighing as much as 600 kilograms (1,300 pounds) and measuring up to 2.75 meters (9 feet) in length. It is an excellent swimmer capable of covering vast distances across open water and, when diving, can remain underwater for over a minute.

The Design:
The designs on the reverse by Robert Bateman show the polar bear in the artic habitat. Four different scenes are pictured: a mother and cub at the entrance to their ice den, a polar bear traversing a gravel river-bed, a polar bear resting at water's edge and a polar bear swimming.

The coins bear a face value of $300, $150, $75, and $30 respectively, with weights of one ounce, half ounce, quarter ounce, and tenth ounce. GST/HST exempt.
