Description
This 1968 proof-like set includes all six denominations from the cent through to the dollar. The coins are specially struck for collectors using highly polished dies and slow moving coin presses. The result is that the coins have a near perfect mirror finish which is significantly different from the coins struck for circulation.
In 1967, the climbing price of silver approached the point where the silver value would exceed the face value of the coins. This was a major problem since the mint did not want to be minting coins at a loss, only to have the coins melted down by others for profit. As a result 1968 was the first year of issue for coins struck in nickel with the reduced size dollar and half dollar coins.
This complete high quality coin set comes presented in a custom mahogany finish display case.
