Description

This rare New Brunswick half cent was not a required denomination by the province, however, 222,800 were produced by the Royal Mint in error. Most were melted, but those that survived were believed to become added to the Nova Scotia 1/2 cent bound for Halifax. This example of the half cent is an absolutely fantastic representative. Original mint lustre can be found in this mint state strike, accented by dark toning over the surface, with select darker areas highlighting the reverse rose/mayflower wreath. The well struck relief images maintain sharp details throughout, most notably the striking portrait of Queen Victoria with her intricate laurel crown and florel dress. A fantastic find with only 6 other examples graded finer by PCGS (4/11). A must have for any collector of provincial coins.
