Description
Prince Ferdinand Philippe of Orleans became the Duc DOrleans upon his fathers ascension to the throne of France. Noted for his brilliant military career in Algeria in the 1830s. Beloved by the people of France following his tragic death in 1842 (He fell from his carriage and smashed his head) he was given a state funeral in the Notre Dame Cathedral and this death medal was created to mark the solemn occasion.
