Description

The National War Memorial in Ottawa serves as a striking expression of the hope and heroism exhibited by generations of Canadians who fought, and continue to fight, for the freedoms we hold so dear. Its representation of Freedom inspired this 2024 allegory, which serves as our latest R&D showcase of innovation. The follow-up to 2023’s Allegory of Peace, this coin with a double-sided 3D figure is now entirely cast in 99.99% pure silver—a higher purity level than the 2023 edition, whose allegory was cast in .999 fine silver. Visible on the coin’s obverse and reverse, the inspirational 3D figure is plated with gold to radiate hope and optimism, as Freedom holds up the torch that lights the way forward.

The Design:
Inspired by the Liberty bronze figure on the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Ontario, the coin’s double-sided design by artist Rebecca Yanovskaya features a gold-plated 3D allegorical figure of Freedom cast in 99.99% pure silver. Riding on the back of a mythical bird that carries Freedom wherever she is needed, the figure holds a torch high to light the way forward. The allegory is set in the antiqued rim (also 99.99% silver), while on the coin’s outer rim, a scroll is paired with olive branches and maples leaves signifying Canada’s contributions to peace and freedom. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
