Description
2023 marks the first time in nearly a century that regular issue coins bearing the current year date may not be issued for circulation. Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in late 2022, the Royal Canadian Mint announced that it would wait for approvals and tooling, presumably for a new effigy of King Charles III, before producing new current dated coinage for circulation. However, the Mint also wanted to continue to produce its annual collection of First Strike coinage rolls for 2023. To accomplish
this, these highly sought after collector edition coins feature the 2023 date together with a posthumous effigy of Queen Elizabeth including the double date 1952-2022 marking the years of her reign.
While there may soon be new circulation coinage featuring King Charles III, these last Queen Elizabeth II coins are an exceptional opportunity to obtain a complete ultra-low mintage roll set of coins that will not be available in circulation.
Rolls include the $2 Polar Bear design (25 coins), the $1 Common Loon (25 coins), 25 Cent Caribou (40 coins), 10 Cent Bluenose (50 coins) and the 5 Cent Beaver (40 coins). 180 coins in total. The five rolls come housed in a Royal Canadian Mint presentation case with numbered certificate of authenticity.
