Description
This 2023 Monarch butterfly $50 silver coin is the latest rendition of the Royal Canadian Mint’s innovation in interactive coins with moving elements. Past issues of coins using similar motion technology have sold out quickly from the mint and remain very popular collectibles today. Mintage is limited to just 1,250 coins.
The Design:
This large format coin features a three dimensional yellow gold plated silver butterfly and a three dimensional rose gold plated silver aster bloom. Just tilt the coin and watch as the gravity-activated monarch circles the flower. Behind the yellow and rose gold elements, the medley of contrasting colours continues with an arrangement of classic engraved silver asters.
The obverse features the posthumous effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt together with the double dates of her reign 1952 – 2022.
