Mark a significant moment in history with this 2023 Special Edition proof silver dollar, issued to mark the Coronation and reign of His Majesty King Charles III. The simple but elegant design features His Majesty’s Royal Cypher encircled by beads together with the denomination and CANADA.
As an historical anomaly, the obverse of this first King Charles III issue still features a posthumous effigy of late Queen Elizabeth while the Royal Canadian Mint works towards completing a new effigy for the King. The coin has a weight of about three quarters of an ounce of fine silver and a limited mintage of 25,000 pieces. GST/HST exempt.
The classic of all Royal Canadian Mint collector coins is the annual series of silver dollars which has marked important people and events in Canadian history in each year since 1971. Occasionally, an extremely important event will result in one or more Special Edition proof silver dollars being added to the series in the same year. For 2023, this Special Edition coin marks the Coronation of a new monarch for the first time in 70 years.
