Description

Capture the rich sounds and significant legacy of Oscar Peterson with this low mintage one ounce fine gold coin.  A prolific performer who garnered countless awards and accolades, Canada’s Oscar Peterson (1925-2007) wowed the world with his virtuosity and melodic improvisations. His illustrious career spanned six decades, produced more than 400 recordings, and more than 200 original compositions, including his inspirational Hymn to Freedom. A piano-driven call for equality, the song is beautifully represented on this 99.99% pure gold salute to its composer, whose joy and love of music were evident in every performance.

Mintage is extremely limited to just 400 coins.  HST/GST exempt.

Throughout his extraordinary career, Oscar Peterson kept audiences spellbound through his displays of virtuosity and musicality.  Peterson’s first recording, I Got Rhythm, was released in Canada in 1945. He went on to produce over 400 recordings in his career, including the popular albums Night Train (1962) and Canadiana Suite (1964), his “musical portrait of the Canada I love.”

The Oscar Peterson Trio helped make Oscar Peterson a household name in the 1950s. The group’s composition changed several times through the years—it even became a quartet in 1974. He also played in duos and on hundreds of albums by other legendary artists, from Ella Fitzgerald to Louis Armstrong, who called him “the man with four hands.”
