Canada’s newest $2 commemorative coin is a memorial to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Elegant and understated, the coin replaces the shiny nickel-plated ring that regularly surrounds the effigy of the Queen and Polar bear with a black nickel-plated steel outer ring as a symbol of mourning. 25 uncirculated coins come housed in a special wrap with the Royal Canadian Mint logo and a unique printed memorial design. Mintage is limited to 30,000 rolls.
Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, and acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952 upon the death of her father King George VI. Her coronation was held on June 2, 1953. Her Majesty ruled with grace and dignity for more than 70 years until her death on September 8th , 2022.
