Description
Each holiday season since 2013 the Royal Canadian Mint has offered a festive themed fine silver coin featuring a Murano glass element, and this series has been one of the most popular and anticipated among many collectors. Mintage is limited to just 5,500. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
This 2020 addition to the series features a hand crafted Murano glass gingerbread man on a plateful of cookies for Santa. Shortbread, chocolate chip and more — these decorated treats are a sweet reminder of a holiday baking tradition that is a recipe for family fun. With the coin standing in for the plate, the colourful cookies will appeal to your sweet tooth and bring back memories of leaving milk and cookies out for the jolly old elf. The reverse includes the word “CANADA” and the date “2019”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Murano Glass:
Murano glass dates back to 8th century Rome. At the time, glass was a luxury reserved strictly for the rich, and glassmakers enjoyed an aristocratic status. Each Murano glass element has been hand crafted by master artisans in Murano, Italy, combining rich traditions of the past with the modern workmanship of the Royal Canadian Mint. Because the Murano glass gingerbread man has been fashioned by hand, each coin is unique.
