Atop a Gotham City rooftop, Batman and Robin survey their city. Night after night, the Caped Crusaders protect Gotham City from the worst criminal underworld in the DC Comics universe; and when Police Commissioner Gordon shines the Bat Signal into the night sky, the Dynamic Duo knows it can only mean one thing: Gotham City needs them!
The reverse design mimics a comic book splash page with its engraved rendition of the Bat Signal shining in the night sky over Gotham City. The colour and coin frosting allow the iconic beacon to retain its luminosity, particularly through the contrast between the colour elements and the coin’s exposed silver surface. Behind the Bat Signal, a laser halftone pattern adds a modern graphic element that recreates a night sky backdrop, allowing the signal to shine brightly while infusing the entirety of the design with a classic comic book feel. The obverse features the word “BARBADOS” and the year “2019” alongside the Coat of Arms of Barbados.
