Description
One of Canada’s most anticipated coins each year from the Royal Canadian Mint is the annual Pysanka egg, with all three past issues selling out immediately from the Mint and appreciating in value in the secondary market to as much as $400. This 2019 $20 fine silver coin Pysanka Egg coin is based on the world-famous landmark in Vegreville, Alberta. In Vegreville, the giant egg monument is nearly 8 metres long and 5.5 metres wide, and stands as a symbol of Life and Good Fortune. It was originally planned in 1973 and completed in 1975 as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the RCMP who brought peace and security to the multi-cultural settlement. The fine silver coin beautifully captures the art and symbolism of the original monument with a combination of brilliant selective colour and dazzling silver. The mintage is limited to just 5,000. HST/GST Exempt.
The Design:
Fine engraving mimics the tiled look of the geometric design, which includes five key elements: a radiating sunburst to symbolize growth, fortune and eternal life; triangles that signify a trinity and unity; a straight band to represent eternity; six-pointed stars that are a representation of windmills, a symbol of a good harvest; and finally, a wolf tooth pattern for security, as a tribute to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The colours are also symbolic, with gold and silver representing fortune while bronze signifies the land that sustained Vegreville’s early population and their descendants.
The reverse includes the engraved face value “20 DOLLARS”, the year “2019” and the word “CANADA”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
