Design #1: The Fire Rainbow

The fire rainbow is not a true rainbow at all, but a rare atmospheric halo that takes the form of a brilliant, multi-colored cloud. It is born from fair weather rather than rain, appearing when the sun is high in the sky and aligns with thin cirrus clouds. Tiny plate ice crystals within these clouds act as natural, suspended prisms. As light streams through them, it bends and splits, igniting the sky in a rainbow pattern.

The reverse of this coin features an engraved lakeside setting on a mid-summer day. Rolling hills rise up towards a blue-coloured sky with a fire rainbow, which is enhanced by a blacklight. 

Design #2: The Aurora Borealis

The reverse design features a detailed engraving of a lakeside campsite on an early autumn night. The sky is illuminated by the aurora borealis, portrayed in selective neon coloration that is enhanced with a blacklight. 

Design #3: Light Pillars

A light pillar is a rare atmospheric marvel where vertical columns of light appear to grow from a light source. This occurs during extreme cold, when flat ice crystals drift lower into the atmosphere or form high cirrostratus clouds, acting as tiny mirrors that reflect light upward and downward.

The reverse design illustrates a sub-zero winter night over a Canadian city. The clear evening sky is brought to life using blacklight technology. When activated by ultraviolet light a brilliant array of light pillars glow to life.
