Description
Her Majesty Queen Victoria was instrumental in shaping Canada’s character and institutions, and the proof lies in the Canadian cities, streets and buildings that still bear her name today. They are a testament to the legacy of this long-reigning sovereign, whose May birthday continues to be a national holiday in Canada.
This 2019 $10 pure gold coin commemorates the bicentennial of the birth of Canada’s “Mother of Confederation,” Her Majesty Queen Victoria (1819-1901). On its reverse is a profile portrait of the young Sovereign, courtesy of the National Library and Archives of Canada. Until now, this image has never been featured on a Canadian coin. The decorative details surrounding our portrait are also inspired by the original artwork, with a Victorian decorative pattern that gives this coin a classic look and feel. Adding to the collectability, the mintage is limited to just 1,500. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse is a reproduction of a profile portrait of Her Majesty Queen Victoria (c. 1842-1850), courtesy of the National Library and Archives of Canada. The original artwork drawn by R. J. Lane, A.R.A., is framed by a decorative pattern, which is replicated here with the addition of several maple leaves. The reverse includes the double dates “1819 - 2019" to mark the bicentennial of the birth (May 24, 1819) of Her Majesty Queen Victoria. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
