Description
While each year the Royal Canadian Mint issues a fine silver proof set with a mintage of 20,000, this captivating 2018 Special Edition coloured fine silver proof set has a mintage of just 7,000, making it one of the lowest mintage proof sets ever issued. GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
Marking the 110th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mint, all the designs from the five cents to the $2 coin are presented with designs in full colour, set against a brilliant silver or gold plated background. At the top center of the collection, a unique commemorative medallion is included featuring an image of the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa where the country’s first “Canadian made” official coinage was struck in 1908. All seven pieces in this 2018 Set are struck in 99.99% fine silver. Denominations and designs include the 5 cent (beaver), 10 cent (bluenose schooner), 25 cent (caribou), 50 cent (coat of arms), Loon Style dollar (loon), 2 dollar (polar bear) coins, and 110th Anniversary Medallion (RCM building).
The Medallion Design: The Royal Canadian Mint medallion designed by Kristin McPherson features the turreted façade of the historic Ottawa branch of the Royal Canadian Mint on one side and the iconic silhouette of the more modern Winnipeg branch on the other side. Collector and bullion coins are currently produced in Ottawa, while coins for circulation are produced in Winnipeg.
