Description
Canada’s arboreal emblem is magnificent in the summer, when its broad leaves form a dense canopy that filters the sun’s warm rays. This coin is a beautiful invitation to step into a Canadian maple grove where sunlight spills down through the foliage and creates an inspiring view from the ground. This 2018 $30 fine silver Maple Canopy coin weighs two ounces of pure silver, with a large format 50 mm diameter and a limited mintage of just 3,500. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse image by artist Emily Damstra showcases the picturesque beauty of the sugar maple tree on a bright summer day. The unique perspective creates the impression of standing at the base of an iconic Canadian tree, and looking up at the engraved trunks and branches that reach ever higher into the cloudless sky. Inspired by the natural phenomenon of crown shyness, the coloured maple canopy is marked by thin borders of light that form a distinctive shape among the leaves, where the shine of a proof finish stands in for sunlight. The reverse includes the engraved word “CANADA”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
