Description
The great grizzly bear leaves little doubt about its fishing skills on the reverse of this fine silver coin. The coin is dated 2018 with a $20 denomination and weighs one ounce of pure silver. Adding to its collectability, the mintage is limited to just 6,000. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The second of three coins in the Canadian Mosaic series travels to the coastal rivers of British Columbia on the reverse, where innovative mosaic colour technology transforms the wildlife portrait of the grizzly bear into a beautiful tile mosaic. The reverse image by Jori van der Linde features a side-profile view of a grizzly bear at the edge of a salmon-rich river, all re-imagined in the style of mosaic art. Just like real mosaic tile art, the larger image is formed by different-sized “segments” that are defined by engraved lines and clad in luminous colours—save for the silver proof shine of the rocks that have been “polished” by the fast-moving water. Mosaic Colour technology mimics the appearance of light filtering through each coloured piece as the eye moves from the water’s glassy hues to the more vibrant colours of the spawning salmon, and the opaque colours of the grizzly bear’s fur. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
