Description

This 2018 $20 fine silver coin features Canada’s iconic bird – the Canada Goose.  By including a printed element that rises from the surface of the coin, the Canada goose appears to be on approach, splashing feet first into a Canadian lake setting.  Mintage is limited to 6,000.  As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this coin is HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

Designed by Royal Canadian Mint engraver Matthew Bowen, the reverse features a colourful rendering of a Canada goose that rises up from the surface of the engraved background. The uniquely shaped element is the product of a combined printing and embossing process known as thermoforming, which colourfully re-creates the large-sized waterfowl’s distinctive appearance in with dimensional detail.  The goose arches above the design to simulate its arrival in a lake setting, where several other members of the flock are already paddling about on the water. The goose’s long neck is curved forward as it uses its feet to break, creating a splash of water that conveys the swiftness of its descent.
