Description
Out of the R&D Lab: brand new technology meets a Canadian classic! This matchless 10-ounce silver piedfort coin is concave on both the obverse and reverse, thanks to the application of brand-new minting technology. This $1 silver coin weighs 10 ounces and has a diameter of 60 millimetres. Mintage is limited to 112 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
Designed by the Royal Canadian Mint R&D Lab, it applies new technology to create a coin that features multiple unique traits. The piedfort style of the coin receives a whole new treatment with a concave shape on both sides of the coin. The total curvature of each side is 6.3 millimetres and the edge thickness is over 16 millimetres— which makes it even thicker than our 1 kilogram coins. The 11-sided circumference and reverse design are taken from Canada’s 1-dollar circulation coin, the Loonie. Robert Ralph Carmichael’s iconic image presents a stylized common loon floating past an island on a lake. The reverse features the text “CANADA” and “DOLLAR” and the date “2018”. The coin’s obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II against a repeating field of concentric maple leaves.
Out of the R&D Lab comes this amazing coin, which features a concave obverse and reverse with more than 6 millimetres of curvature on each side
