Description
Reaching outward from the strong, firmly rooted tree, the sugar maple leaf (Acer saccharum) is a universally recognized token of all things Canadian. Magnificently captured here on this 5 oz. pure gold coin, the maple leaf’s resilience and distinctive appearance make it a fitting ambassador to the world, but it also reminds us of the natural beauty of this land we call home. Crafted from 5 oz. of 99.99% pure gold, this proof-quality coin is an immaculate piece of commanding size (60.15 mm diameter) and beauty. Mintage is limited to 99 coins. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
On the reverse, Canadian artist Margaret Best presents a timeless portrait of a true Canadian icon. The mirror-like gleam of the coin’s surface mimics the sun’s golden rays and evokes all the warmth of a summer day. In the centre, two sugar maple (Acer saccharum) leaves gently overlap, their stems naturally pointing outward from the single branch. The larger leaf in the foreground allows for a more detailed rendering of its features, which have been precisely engraved to give the artistic design an enhanced sense of depth and realism. The reverse includes the engraved face value “500 DOLLARS”, the purity level “9999 AU” and weight “5 OZ”, the word “CANADA”, and the year “2017”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
A testament to the Royal Canadian Mint’s internationally renowned craftsmanship, the life-like reverse features meticulously engraved details that capture the understated elegance of a true Canadian icon. An outstanding work of art that will be the centrepiece of your nature- or Canada-themed collection. Previous issues went quickly and this one is destined to sell out, too!
