Description
This $50 fine silver convex coin is the perfect canvas to showcase one of Canada’s most beloved symbols, the maple leaf. The reverse features a stunning display of swirling maple leaves that, combined with the coin’s unique shape and reflective proof finish, take on a three-dimensional appearance of depth as they seem to fly high into the air. The dome-like obverse highlights one of the reverse maple leaves in a repeating pattern designed to dazzle with a second three-dimensional illusion. The mintage is just 2,000 coins, adding to its scarcity and collectability. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST / GST exempt.
The Design:
Using a large 60 mm five ounce fine silver format with a $50 face value, the remarkable design by Canadian artist Lisa Thomson-Khan allows the domed curvature to add a convincing and entrancing true-to-life dimensional effect. This is the Royal Canadian Mint’s first 60-millimetre format convex coin. The reverse features the date “2017,” the word “CANADA,” and the face value of “50 DOLLARS.”
