Description
One ounce of pure platinum, a classic theme with modern art enhancements and a mintage of just 250 coins come together to make this coin a scarce high quality collectible. The design features leaves from the Douglas maple—one of 10 maple species found in Canada. Compared with the leaves of the familiar sugar maple, the Douglas maple's are more finely toothed. This distinctive feature has been reproduced with uncompromising detail and further enhanced with pink gold plating and vivid colour. GST/HST exempt.
The Design:
Canadian artist Margaret Best created a wonderfully detailed design of Douglas maple leaves struck in reverse proof (brilliant details on a frosted background). A single large leaf drifts down the centre of the coin while five more float along the upper edge in a style reminiscent of the first coins that circulated in the colony. Pink gold plate adds a breathtaking highlight to the design, while vivid colour enhances the remaining elements, including the pair of winged samaras that appear to the right of the central leaf. The leaves are more serrated than those of the sugar maple that appears on Canada's national flag, a distinctive feature that has been reproduced with uncompromising detail on this exceptional platinum coin.
