The Design:
Canadian artist Curtis Atwater has created a quintessential scene of log cabins nestled in the northern forest during a full moon on a clear winter night. A great horned owl is perched in a tree nearby, unruffled by the wind as it blows snow off the branches above. Its gaze is intent as it surveys the surroundings for signs of a potential meal. Firelight glows from the windows of the cabins, and the viewer is compelled to wonder if the people inside are aware of the magnificent bird perched just outside.
Using a large 54 mm two ounce fine silver format, the remarkable design comes to life in the dark as it luminesces to create a breathtaking nighttime scene. With newly developed technology, the glow effect appears in full colour with variable intensity. The resulting effect creates a glow from the moon and that shines brightly and appears to radiate across the scene. The light glimmers and sparkles on the fresh snow, trees, stars and windows when viewed in the dark. The effect is revealed after placing the coin in a light source for 30 to 60 seconds, then viewing in a dark room.
