This 2017 $3 proof fine silver coin is the first in a new zodiac series that features sparkling Swarovski® crystal embellishments within a colour-over-engraved rendition of the zodiac. The zodiac has a long, rich history that dates back to Hellenic and Babylonian civilizations, when astrology and astronomy were virtually inseparable. Today, its 12 signs entertain, intrigue or inspire millions of people worldwide.
The coin is dated 2017 with a $3 denomination and weighs just over one quarter ounce of pure silver. Adding to its collectability, the mintage is extremely limited to just 5,500. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse design by Pandora Young features an eye-catching combination of colour and engraving that results in a beautifully artistic rendition of the zodiac. Like the stars and planets in the sky, a clear Swarovski® crystal embellishment is in alignment with the traditional glyph of a mystical sea-goat, the zodiac symbol for Capricorn (December 22-January 20). At the center is a larger Swarovski® crystal embellishment; its indigo colour also represents those born under the Earth sign known for being industrious, practical and ambitious. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
