It features a stunning Canadian landscape together with an optical illusion of wildlife. The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver. This coin features an image of Canadian landscape with an optical illusion of a snowy owl. The mintage is extremely low at just 5,500. As pure silver coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse design by Canadian artist Julius T. Csotonyi features a winter mountain scene. The viewpoint is from a rocky, snow-covered slope, below mountain peaks that rise in the distance. But on closer examination, a snowy owl emerges from the scene. Its wings are found in the steep mountainsides; its head in the mountain’s central peak; its talons are reflected in highlights on the snow; its feathers defined by spruce trees; and its beak and eye are shaped by two crows circling overhead.
