The 2017 Big Coins series features iconic designs created by Alex Colville in 1967 for Canada’s centennial celebration. Mintage of this coin is limited to just 2,150. HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The design originally created by renowned artist and sculptor Alex Colville presents a Rock Dove, associated with peace and spiritual values. While the original 1967 version was struck in about three grams of copper, this new 2017 version has grown to a 65 mm diameter with a weight of five ounce of pure silver. The finish on the Big Coin is the finest quality double struck proof, and the dove has been enhanced with a layer of 24 karat gold, creating a spectacular work of numismatic art. Even the obverse portrait of Queen Elizabeth is special, featuring the effigy in use in 1967 with selective gold plating on the Queen’s gown.
