The Design:
The reverse design by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota features full colour over an engraved hockey-themed scene set at an outdoor rink. The sun has set over this neighbourhood, but that hasn’t stopped a group of youths from continuing their game well into the evening. Under the glow of a street light, five youths proudly wear their team colours and skates as they play over the mirror-like ice surface. While one player looks on, two players find themselves tied up in their efforts to get the puck; meanwhile, another player has possession of the puck and takes the shot—it’s a goal! Kneeling on leg pads, the goaltender turns to look behind in disbelief at the puck in the net. Above the scene is the Montreal Canadiens logo, with its iconic red “C” outlined in blue and white, and a smaller “H” inside. The reverse also features the engraved face value “10 DOLLARS”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
