Description
This large five ounce pure silver 2016 25 cent Big Coin features selective colour which brings the intricate design of the Beaver to life in a way never seen before. This coin and all others in the series sold out within minutes of release from the RCM, with 2016 Big Coins now extremely difficult to obtain in the secondary market. With a mintage of just 1,500 coins for one of Canada’s premier quality annual proof coins, this is an extremely limited issue with demand significantly greater than the quantity produced. As a pure silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, there is no HST or GST applicable on this item.
First introduced in 1937, the beaver on our five cent denomination has become a classic symbol of Canada.
The Design:
While a regular five cent coin has a diameter of 21.10 mm and a weight of just 3.95 grams in base metal, this five cent has a diameter of 65 mm and has a weight of over 155 grams, or 5 ounces, in pure silver. This is about equal the weight of 39 regular nickels. The coin is double struck to ensure fine detail and a near flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective colour.
