Description
This 2016 extremely large and impressive $50 coin has a 65 mm diameter and a weight of over five ounces of pure silver. With a mintage of just 2,000 coins, it is also a high quality low mintage limited edition collectible. The coin central feature is a Murano glass maple leaf in a magnificent mix of reds, oranges and golden yellows. This coin's design beautifully conveys autumn’s colourful splendor. This is the largest Murano glass embellishment to date on a silver coin. With its impressive size, limited mintage and first ever large format Murano glass embellishment, it is not surprising that the coin sold out almost immediately from the RCM when it was released. This is now a difficult coin to find in the secondary market with values above the original issue price. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The design highlights autumnal beauty with a Murano glass embellishment of Canada’s national symbol in autumn’s colour palette. The dynamic background features engraved maple leaves positioned all along the coins perimeter as if carried to the ground by the autumn breeze. The detailed engraving recreates the veins that run through each lobe, and the unmistakable serrated edge. Murano glass coins from the Royal Canadian Mint are highly sought after today for their beauty and collectibility. Because the Murano glass maple leaf has been fashioned by hand, each coin is unique!
Around the central Murano glass maple leaf is the word “CANADA” and the date “2016”, with the face value of “50 DOLLARS” engraved beneath.
