Description
This 2016 colour $20 fine silver coin marks the 40th anniversary of the Toronto Blue Jays and celebrates the achievements of Canada’s much-loved baseball team. It is engraved with the words “CANADA,” the Blue Jays logo, the words “40 Seasons/Saisons”, the face value of “20 DOLLARS” and the year “2016”.
The Design:
A wave of the team’s official colours conveys energy and motion in the background which provides a colourful background to a silhouette of a baseball player who has just hit the ball – a reminder of the many homeruns through the Jay’s history. Commemorating the 40th season of play since Toronto was granted its MBL franchise there is a large engraved “40,” and seasons/saisons printed underneath. The coin is double struck with a frosted proof finish, and contains just one ounce of fine silver. As a pure silver coin issued from the Royal Canadian mint, it is GST/HST exempt.
About the Blue JaysTM:
The Blue Jays played their first franchise game in April 7, 1977, against the Chicago White Sox, and before a home crowd of 44,649. This game is best remembered for the snowstorm that started just before game start, with The Blue Jays emerging as the victors, with a score of 9-5. On May 28th, 1989 Toronto played their last game in Exhibition Stadium against the Chicago White Sox, with the Blue Jays winning 7-5 in 10 innings, and on June 5 they played their first game under the retractable roof of the Skydome. 1992 and 1993 Toronto Blue Jays won back to back World Series, marking the first non-US team to win a world series and the first team to win back to back since the Yankees won in 1977/78.
Whether you remember the Blue Jays greats Dave Stieb, George Bell, Roberto Alomar, Joe Carter, Roger Clemens or Jose Bautista the Blue Jays continue to create great moments for their fans.
