Description
This fascinating 2016 colour $20 ultra low mintage coin is the second in the series that showcases the art of illusion and brings you two images for the price of one—it features a stunning Canadian landscape and an optical illusion of wildlife. The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver. This coin features a springtime scene, but on closer examination a monarch butterfly emerges from the scene. The mintage is extremely low at just 5,500. As pure silver coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
The Design:
The reverse design by Canadian artist Julius T. Csotonyi features a springtime scene in colour with a beautiful monarch butterfly emerging from the scene. Flowering trees of dogwood and black plum rise above the calm waters of a lake, but upon closer examination a wing of a monarch butterfly can be seen. One of its wings is outstretched among the branches, while the other wing is a reflection in the water. A turtle lingering near the shore provides the shape for the butterfly’s body and eye.
