Description

This $20 pure silver coin is third of a five coin series from the Royal Canadian Mint that utilizes an art style to represent a contemporary interpretation of Canada’s most famous icons including “the caribou”.  The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver with a large 40 mm diameter, and has a limited mintage of just 7,500 pieces.  As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.

The Design:

Canadian artist Calder Moore has featured a stylized portrait of two caribou in the Canadian wilderness.  Geometry, technology and art intersect in this depiction of an adult male caribou and a young caribou.  Each polygon is made distinct from the other through extraordinary sculpting, cutting-edge technology and advanced finishing techniques. They form a scene as a male caribou looks up at the first snowfall of the season, along with a young caribou by the river’s edge.  Hard lines and sharp corners add texture to the branches of the evergreens and the rocky terrain.  The selection of colour, infuse the scene with vibrancy. An underwater glimpse of the caribou’s splayed hooves is achieved by overlapping the water’s surface beyond the image field.
